Residential VOIP

VOIP stands for Voice Over internet Protocol. This technology enables you to make low cost calls over the internet. VOIP can be used in conjunction with your existing broadband connection - the voice signal is digitised into packets which travel over the internet like any other data.
This product is suited for residential customers or small businesses for non mission critical communications where reduction of costs is a key factor. The quality of the voice connection will depend on the quality of the internet connection which can be affected by factors such as latency and packet loss. A 256kb/s connection is recommended as minimum - however a 512/512kb/s symmetrical service would give more optimum results. Also, VOIP calls will consume data at a rate of approximately 1MB download per 10 minutes of conversation.

Telcoplus can set up a VOIP account very quickly and the most inexpensive way to get started is to download VOIP software on to your computer - we recommend X-Lite. Once the "soft phone" is installed on your computer, just enter your username and password, and then you can make calls using a microphone and headset. Alternatively you can use a conventional PSTN telephone in conjunction with an Analogue Terminal Adaptor (ATA) or purchase an IP phone such as the Grandstream GPX2000 which plugs straight into your router.
